Walker Appointed as Scranton/Wilkes-Barre DS

February 10, 2019

I am very pleased and thrilled to announce the appointment of the Rev. Judy L. Walker as Superintendent of the Scranton Wilkes-Barre District effective July 1, 2019. She will succeed the Rev. Marian E. Hartman who will enter the retired relationship at this year’s Annual Conference.

Rev. Walker graduated from Aberdeen High School, Aberdeen, Md., Penn State University with a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Elementary Education, and Lancaster Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity Degree. She was recommended for ordained ministry by the Fillmore United Methodist Church. She became a local pastor in 2006, was commissioned in 2010, and was ordained in 2012. As a second career pastor, she has served the following pastorates: Windsor Grace, Delta/Bryansville Charge, and Shavertown United Methodist Church since July 1st, 2013. Shavertown Church is one of the largest and highly vital congregations in the Scranton Wilkes Barre District.

The Cabinet is overjoyed to welcome Rev. Judy Walker to its table. She’s a good preacher, excellent administrator, has a passion for social justice, and her connectional, collegial, positive personality was lifted up among her many outstanding gifts and graces for ministry. Judy has been active in many aspects of our connectional life. She along with her husband, Pastor David A. Walker served for several years on the Bishop’s Retreat Committee, including a time as Co-Chairpersons of the committee. She is presently a member of the Conference Nominations Committee. She also served on the Conference Board of Trustees from 2013-2017. Judy is a very talented musician and she has served as the pianist at several congregations before she started her ministry as a pastor. Judy enjoys reading and walking, along with her music.

Rev. Walker is married to David who serves on the Conference Board of Ordained Ministry as the Registrar for Local Pastors and Associate Members. They have two sons, Brad and Jeremy. I would ask that you keep Judy and David in prayer as they make this significant transition. I also ask your prayer for the Shavertown congregation and the Scranton Wilkes-Barre District as they live into this time of transition. Please join me in expressing appreciation to Judy for her willingness to follow God’s call upon her life to serve as a District Superintendent for such a time as this.

With You in Christ’s Ministry,

Jeremiah J. Park
Bishop
