Where Your Treasure Is - Making Disciples with Stewardship

Do not store up for yourselves treasure on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasure in heaven...for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21

Rev. Phyllis Bowers, Executive Director

It’s not enough to make a living. You -- YOU are called to make disciples. Stewardship teaches you how to grow to make disciples. Gather clothes to give to others and you can clothe them with God’s “compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Organize a food drive and you can model Jesus’ offer to “come, buy and eat-- without money.”
Stewardship teaches you how to equip your churches to make disciples. Invest your talents and you can practice committing “your ways to the Lord.” Put in your two cents worth and you can share “where your heart is also.”

Stewardship teaches you how to connect to the communities around you. Stop along the road to help and you can “serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” Show others the importance planned-giving to care for the future, and you can remember and praise God for the ultimate planned gift of Jesus Christ.

Making disciples involves following Jesus’ command to love as he does. Making disciples involves putting others first, to share and live the Sermon on the Mount. You and I are stewards of the Great Commission and of the world. This is an awesome blessing.

Stewardship is about managing your vision, time, opportunities, message, and heart. It is the foundation that helps us make disciples.

It’s not enough to make a living. It’s not even enough to make a difference. We –WE are called to make disciples together for his glory. Thank God for this joy!
